How We Became Dachshund Breeders

Hello, and thank you for visiting!

We’re Daniel and Abigail Barbara , the proud founders of Prestige Dachshund Puppies. With over 9 years of dedicated breeding experience, we’ve made it our life’s work to raise happy, healthy Dachshunds that bring endless joy to families like yours.

Our Love Story. With Dachshunds at the Heart

My (Daniel’s) passion for Dachshunds began at age 10, when my parents gifted me a mischievous mini Dachshund named Rusty. He wasn’t just a pet, he was my best friend, my stress reliever, and the reason I fell in love with this loyal, big-hearted breed.

Years later, Emily and I met in college, and our shared love for Dachshunds sealed the deal. She adored Rusty so much that her family welcomed Lola, a spirited Dachshund who became Rusty’s partner in crime (and our unofficial matchmaker!). Though Rusty is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in every puppy we raise today.

Why We Breed Dachshunds

What started as a childhood dream blossomed into a lifelong mission. After marrying, we turned our passion into Prestige Dachshund Puppies, a small, family-run breeding program focused on:

✔ Health & Longevity – Puppies from genetically tested, champion-bloodline parents
✔ Temperament First – Raised in our home with love, socialization, and early training
✔ Lifetime Support – We’re here 24/7 to guide you, from puppyhood to golden years

Our Promise to You

We don’t just sell puppies, we match families with lifelong companions. Every Dachshund we breed is handpicked for health, personality, and that signature “Doxie” charm.

Our Breeding Philosophy

We are passionate breeders and lovers of Dachshund with 9 years’ experience, and we specialize in producing Dachshund puppies with amazing quality, health, structure, charisma and temperament. Our champion-lined Dachshund is available in the following standard. Fur color is just a small factor in the complete makeup of our dogs. We have sourced the globe for the best and most sought-after bloodlines in each breed. Over the past decade, we have developed those lines to create some of the most breathtaking Dachshunds! Our goal is to produce quality Dachshunds that will be placed in loving family/show homes.

Shipping & Delivery

All of our puppies live at home with us in a loving family environment with kids and other home pets like cats and birds. We enjoy taking our Puppies to various parks and beaches in and around the city. We have been breeding and raising Doxie Puppies for sale for the past years and we believe “Quality isn’t Expensive, It’s priceless” As with most things in life, experience is everything. We have searched the Earth far and wide over the past decade and are happy to have been blessed with the opportunity to find and bring home some of the most exclusive bloodlines in the world. We are working on another generation of our own productions which keep getting better and better with every litter. We are very happy with the mark we have made in the Dachshunds world so far and we are thrilled with the direction of our breeding program. If you are thinking of getting a head-turning Dachshund puppy that will captivate your heart, look no further. Dachshun

We do not let our AKC Dachshund puppies leave until they are 8 weeks old, and sometimes a few days past if they are not eating to our requirements. This is NOT negotiable. If the timing is going to be an issue, then we recommend you wait until it is “not” an issue any longer. As responsible miniature Dachshund breeders, our puppies’ well-being is, and will always be, our first priority!

More About Our Dachshund Puppies

All of the puppies listed on this page are currently available and ready to join their forever homes! We know that many potential owners may be new to the Dachshund breed, so we’ve put together this guide to help you understand what makes these little dogs so special.

Temperament:

Dachshunds are lively, clever, and full of personality! Though small in size, they have big hearts and even bigger courage. Known for their playful and affectionate nature, they make excellent companions and family pets.

  • Great with Families: They are gentle and loving with children, though interactions should always be supervised to ensure safe play.
  • Loyal & Protective: Dachshunds are naturally alert and may bark to notify you of strangers, but they are not aggressive—just devoted to their families.
  • Intelligent & Stubborn: These little “wiener dogs” are quick learners but can have a stubborn streak, so consistent, positive training is key!

Note: While no dog is 100% hypoallergenic, Dachshunds are moderate shedders. If you have allergies, spend time with one before adopting to ensure compatibility.

Nutrition & Feeding:

A balanced diet is essential for your Dachshund’s health. Since they are prone to obesity, portion control is important.

  • Puppies (8 weeks – 1 year): Feed high-quality puppy food 3-4 times daily in small portions.
  • Adults (1+ years): ½ to 1 cup of premium dry food per day, split into two meals.
  • Seniors (7+ years): Adjust food based on activity level to prevent weight gain.

Key Nutrients: Look for foods rich in protein (chicken, beef, fish) and healthy fats (omega-3s for coat health). Avoid overfeeding treats to maintain a healthy weight.

Health & Exercise:

Dachshunds have an average lifespan of 12-16 years. While generally healthy, they can be prone to certain conditions, including:

  • IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) – Due to their long spines, avoid high jumps and use ramps for furniture.
  • Dental Issues – Regular teeth brushing prevents gum disease.
  • Obesity – Keep them active to avoid joint strain.

Exercise Needs:

  • Daily walks (15-30 mins)
  • Playtime (fetch, puzzle toys)
  • Supervised outdoor exploration (they love to dig and sniff!)

Grooming:

Dachshunds come in three coat types:

  1. Smooth-Coated – Short, shiny fur (easiest to maintain).
  2. Longhaired – Silky, flowing fur (needs regular brushing).
  3. Wirehaired – Coarse, dense fur (requires occasional trimming).

Grooming Tips:

  • Brush weekly (daily for long-haired).
  • Bathe every 4-6 weeks.
  • Trim nails monthly.
  • Clean your ears regularly to prevent infections.

Conclusion:

Dachshunds are loyal, spirited, and endlessly entertaining companions. If you’re ready to welcome one into your home, check out our Available Puppies section above!
